License change vs. contributors

Every person who contributes to the YetiForce software from the outside of our organization must sign a CLA, which specifies the rules under which the co-developed code is distributed.

The Contributor License Agreement [CLA] defines the detailed rules for the contributors to distribute their work. This document protects YetiForce from liability for the contributor's code as well as the contributor himself.

Below is the most important license extract between YetiForce and the software contributors.

  1. Grant of Copyright License.
Everything you create for YetiForce is under the YetiForce Public License, which allows for further use and distribution of your Contribution.
  2. Grant of Patent License.
By submitting each of your Contributions to the YetiForce system, you also grant the patent license for YetiForce S.A., and all the software recipients. It allows for further development, use and transfer of your Contribution, without holding YetiForce responsible in case any entity files a patent lawsuit against you.
  3. You declare that you are legally entitled to grant the above license.
In case your employer owns the copyrights to your Contribution, you are obliged to receive their consent to contribute on their behalf, and your employer should waive their copyrights to your Contribution on behalf of YetiForce S.A. By signing this agreement you declare that you received your employer’s consent.
  4. You declare that each of your Contributions is your original creation.
You declare that your Contributions are the result of your own creation and do not infringe the copyrights of others. If you would like to submit work that is not your own creation, you can send it to YetiForce S.A. You need to provide details of its sources and of any licenses.
  5. You are not expected to provide support for your contributions, except to the extent you desire to provide support.
You provide your Contributions on an ”as is” basis, which means that you do not offer warranties of any kind. You may provide support for free, for a fee, or not at all.
You agree to notify the project coordinators of any facts or circumstances of which you become aware that would make these representations inaccurate in any respect.
  6. YetiForce S.A. may reserve the right not to publish some functionalities under the YetiForce Public License and release them under a different license and/or transfer to a third party. In this case, YetiForce will inform the contributor about this fact before implementing the functionalities and provide detailed rules related to the license as well as source code transfer for functionality.

From time to time, we modify the license to make it even more business-friendly, and in some exceptional cases, we sign agreements with customers that provide the YetiForce system under a different license. The CLAs that we sign with all contributors allow us to adjust to the needs of large enterprises and at the same time, they determine maturity and awareness of licensing open source projects.
